Flavor Hills, the Black-owned comfort-food chain, has closed all of its restaurant locations. The company continues to operate its catering and private-events business.
The closures land inside an industry-wide squeeze on full-service restaurants: labor costs, rents, and softer dine-in traffic have been closing dining rooms across the country regardless of who owns them.
The pivot is the detail worth watching. Catering carries lower fixed costs than a dining room and keeps the brand and the kitchen alive. Plenty of restaurant comebacks have started from exactly there.
